Dave Glover Quits BCSWEET
For the last couple of years since Brian's sad passing the name of his band has been kept alive by bassman Dave Glover. Accompanied by an assortment of funtime rockers the band has toured extensively. But now Dave Glover quits to join Slade
When the original Sweet split back in the early 80's Brian and his New Sweet with such names as John Verity and Bob Henritt helping him to hold his head up amongst others on the cabaret circuit. The formation of Brian's BCSWEET continued the dream and a mix of musicians joined the lead singer on stage as he continued, despite increasing ill health, to amaze audiences with the voice and stage presence all over the UK and Europe. With his passing there was much debate as to whether or not it was right to continue using the BCSWEET name and it was always Dave who fronted the band as spokesman and took the flack when it came. Indeed for many Dave Glover was the BCSWEET. With Glen Williams, Jerome Marcus, Syd Twynam and occasionally Gerry Shepherd content to trust Dave's judgement, the gap between the cabaret circuit and the arenas was filled with the BCSWEET blasting forth the SWEET hits, backed up with a glitter and pyrotechnic show to rival the best on the block.
As Dave joins SLADE it will be interesting to see just what will become of BCSWEET. There are commitments to fill and we hear that Martyn Cooke takes over on bass.
One thing is at least certain... we haven't heard the last of the controversial laser bassman Dave Glover.
